The Outing

Werewolves are real. You probably already knew that. It's 2018. Three years ago, an NHS screening programme found the lycanthropy biomarker in a fraction of the population, and a secret the packs had kept for a thousand years broke on a Tuesday morning, somewhere between the weather and the football. Now there's a box for it on your NHS form. There's a sticker in the chip-shop window — ALL WELCOME, or a silver fern, depending whose side they're on. Parliament has been arguing about the Registration Act for two years. The Silver Front leaflets your street. Most days, though, nothing happens at all. You go to work. You catch the bus. You mind who you sit next to. You're one of them, or you're not. A wolf who heals from anything but silver, who runs hot and outlives everyone they love — bound to a pack whose word is older than English law. Or a human with no claws and no bond, just your wits and whatever's in your pocket — deciding, every day, whether the wolf question is your problem. This isn't a war. Not yet. It's a country working out, one form and one pub argument at a time, what to do about the people living next door. What you do about it is up to you. Choose your species start. The rest is just Tuesday. Who You Can Be? Everyone has a job, or doesn't — pick the one that's you. Human jobs: Civil Servant, Docker, Farmer, First Responder, Fisherman, Freelancer, Frontline Worker (nurse, carer, teacher, bus driver), Journalist, Labourer, Officer of the Law, Publican, Retail Worker, Tech Worker, Tradesperson, University Student, Van Lifer, Carer, Out of Work. Wolf pack roles (wolf-only): Enforcer / Head Enforcer, Pack Second, Scout, Diplomat, Investigator, Lawyer, Medic, Office Worker, Driver, Signals Lead, Pack Bartender, Pack Cook, Pack Coordinator, Pack Docker, Pack Librarian, Pack Quartermaster, Pack School Teacher, Lycanthrope Unit Veteran. Open to both: Vet — the only medicine a wolf is legally allowed to practice; some humans quietly treat wolves off the books too. Important — please read: This world uses a trait-giving trigger system, and it isn't perfect. Sometimes it'll assign traits you shouldn't have — like Human and Werewolf together. Ask the narrator to remove anything that doesn't make sense. Wolves should have: Species (Werewolf), Lineage (True Born or Turned), Pack Role, Pack Rank. Anything else, question it. Humans should have: Species (Human), a Stance (Fearful, Curious, Hostile, Sympathetic, Pragmatist, Fanatical, or Respectful), and sometimes an Allegiance (Silver Front Ally/Leaning, Pack Chaser/Leaning, or The Integrator — most humans get none). If you get any wolf rank, role, or lineage trait, ask for it removed. Do not hit Generate on the character background without picking a species first (Human or Wolf) — without one, it can default incorrectly. For all updates, tweaks, and fixes: there's a post in #voyage-worlds for this world — search "The Outing."
