Arkenfell
Arkenfell is a large high-fantasy open-world sandbox set on Eldaven: a continent of royal courts, rural villages, magical academies, dangerous roads, ancient ruins, trade republics, temple law, foreign empires, monster societies, hidden factions, and old secrets beneath ordinary lives. The world includes 210+ authored NPCs, 330+ authored locations across 25 mapped regions, 50+ factions, 900+ abilities, nearly 140 skills, and an expansive Arcana magic system with common, rare, legendary, forbidden, and story-unlocked powers. Magic can shape combat, travel, healing, politics, research, social status, reputation, and the way powerful people look at you. This world is built for player freedom. You do not begin as the chosen one. You begin as someone with a place in the world. Your origin decides who knows you, what pressures surround you, what rumors follow you, and which doors open first. It does not decide what you become. Most stories begin in or near Valenreach, a wealthy kingdom of pale-stone cities, noble estates, mage roads, old forests, village shrines, royal patrols, guarded archives, noble politics, and half-forgotten frontier places. A quiet start in Greyhaven can grow from local work, missing wagons, old wells, rumors, favors, and village suspicion. A court start in Highcourt Armathen can pull you into etiquette, guarded records, reputation, noble pressure, and conversations where a smile may be more dangerous than a threat. A Crownspire Collegium start can focus on lessons, rival students, rare Arcana, restricted archives, and the risk of becoming politically valuable before you are ready. Beyond Valenreach are harsher and stranger powers: Dreadmark legions, Tide Empire dragonriders, Lythael elven courts, Solmire merchant houses, Solarian temples, Arcanum mage authorities, vampire principalities, dwarven holds, desert clans, sky dominions, haunted marches, demon-blooded contract courts, outlaw lands, and monster forests where the wild has laws of its own. Play can be local, political, magical, social, martial, investigative, romantic, or exploratory. Problems can be solved through combat, diplomacy, stealth, research, magic, favors, bribery, reputation, friendship, intimidation, or patient investigation. NPCs have motives. Factions remember. Public mistakes travel. Trust grows slowly. A kindness, insult, duel, theft, rescue, bargain, confession, or spell display can become a rumor, debt, warning, opportunity, or future problem. Magic is powerful, but not weightless. Common Arcana can shape work, travel, combat, and social standing. Rare Arcana can attract teachers, temples, scholars, rivals, nobles, criminals, and people who want to protect, recruit, study, use, or contain you. Legendary Arcana are story-shaping powers, not casual tricks. Healing can save lives, but wounds still matter. Overchanneling has consequences. Forbidden powers may give answers, but they also draw attention. Defeat does not always mean death. It may mean capture, injury, debt, lost ground, damaged reputation, recovery time, faction leverage, or a new problem to escape from. Arkenfell is meant for stories that can stay small or grow vast: protect a village, build a home, survive captivity, study dangerous magic, rise through court, join a faction, hunt relics, expose corruption, become beloved, become feared, or bargain with powers older than kingdoms. The world will not hand you destiny. Importance is earned. Reputation is witnessed. Power has a cost. Every road leads somewhere that remembers. The default story start is **Lost Heir: Unproven Blood**, a courtly inheritance story about uncertain blood, public legitimacy, noble pressure, hidden records, magical attention, and the danger of being important before you are ready. This default start is based on and inspired by **The Lost Royal**, the AI Dungeon scenario created by **@xxAzraelxx** with original framing by **@springtea**. It is the AI Dungeon scenario I have spent the most time playing and absolutely love: https://play.aidungeon.com/scenario/e6uiKDzApAqG/the-lost-royal?source=adventure&published=true
