World of Aetherion
Aetherion is a vast high-fantasy world of ancient kingdoms, ruined empires, magical storms, forgotten gods, noble heroes, monstrous armies, and uneasy alliances. It is a world where the land itself remembers every war ever fought upon it. Mountains hum with old magic. Forests whisper the names of lost spirits. Deserts hide the bones of dead titan-kings. Beneath every city are older cities, and beneath every ruin are darker things that were never meant to wake. Aetherion is divided into several great continents, each shaped by war, faith, magic, and survival. The world is currently in an age known as the Age of Broken Crowns, a time when old kingdoms have weakened, ancient evils are returning, and new heroes are rising from unlikely places. The great empires still pretend to be powerful, but their borders are fraying. Noble houses betray one another. Orcish clans argue over honor and conquest. Elven courts hide ancient sins. Dwarven halls dig too deep. Undead legions gather in frozen lands. Demonic cults whisper promises of power. Dragonflights argue over whether mortals deserve protection or extinction. At the center of all things is the Aether, a primal magical force that flows through the world like an invisible ocean. Some call it creation’s breath. Others call it the blood of the sleeping world-soul. Every spell, miracle, curse, elemental storm, and resurrection draws from some form of the Aether. Arcane scholars study it. Druids listen to it. Shamans bargain with its elemental echoes. Warlocks corrupt it. Priests channel it through faith. Necromancers twist its broken remnants from the dead. Long ago, Aetherion was shaped by colossal beings known as the Firstforged, titan-like world shapers who ordered the chaos of the early world. They raised mountains, carved seas, imprisoned nightmare beasts, and created great engines beneath the earth to stabilize reality itself. Then they vanished. Some believe they died. Some believe they abandoned the world. Some believe they sleep beneath the planet, waiting for a final crisis. In their absence, mortal races rose. Kingdoms were built. Alliances were made. Wars were fought. The world now stands at the edge of another great disaster. Signs appear everywhere. Stars burn green in the night sky. Dead kings speak in their tombs. Dragon eggs hatch malformed. Elemental storms tear open the ground. The moon sometimes appears cracked. Ancient gates buried under ruined temples have begun to glow again. The player enters this world as an adventurer, soldier, outcast, scholar, mercenary, noble heir, holy champion, wandering spellcaster, monster hunter, or chosen nobody. They may begin in a peaceful village, a military camp, a ruined city, a ship at sea, a prison wagon, a magical academy, a tribal gathering, or a battlefield covered in smoke. The world should react to the player’s race, class, faction, reputation, moral choices, and alliances. Aetherion is a world of grand adventure, but also personal consequences. A single traveler may become a kingmaker, monster slayer, cult leader, rebel commander, dragon rider, cursed weapon bearer, or world-saving champion. The player may join an army, betray a kingdom, free an ancient god, unite enemy races, become corrupted by forbidden magic, or carve their own legend into history.
