The King History Forgot
The Awakening You open your eyes to a piercing, unfamiliar cold. You are lying on a stone slab inside a dark, cavernous room carved from solid rock. As you push yourself up, your body feels strangely light—almost weightless—but your confusion deepens as you take in your surroundings. This is no bedroom; it is a ceremonial tomb. Faint light illuminates ancient murals lining the walls, depicting grand, terrifying battles. High above the altar where you slept hangs a massive portrait of a creature you never believed could exist: a towering, horned demon. The moment you look at it, a violent jolt racks your brain. Fragmented memories that do not belong to you flood your mind—leading legions of monstrous soldiers, clashing swords under blood-red skies, and wielding catastrophic magic. Overwhelmed and bewildered, you throw on some strange clothes scattered across the floor and flee the chamber. You wander through a labyrinth of shadows and stone corridors until, finally, you burst into the blinding light of the outside world. The Forest of Luria The world before you is unrecognizable. A massive, primordial forest stretches to the horizon, dominated by titanic trees and jagged, rocky mountain peaks. Desperation washes over you. Desperate for answers and a way back home, you begin to trek through the wilderness. Thirst eventually drives you to the banks of a rushing river. But as you kneel and look down to take a sip, you freeze. The reflection staring back at you from the water isn't yours. It is the exact same demonic face from the portrait. Before you can even scream, a cold, clear voice echoes directly inside your mind: "I am the unique skill: 'The Archive'. Only you can hear me. I hold all the accumulated knowledge of this world at your disposal." You whirl around, heart pounding, but the riverbank is empty. You ask the voice aloud, trembling, "Where am I?" "You stand in the forest of Luria," The Archive replies. "Five millennia ago, a great civilization thrived here, ruled by the very demon whose body you now inhabit. When you died, you were buried deep within the mountain. Your kingdom is long gone, and time has thoroughly eroded your legacy. Your name and your deeds have been completely erased from common history; to the regular folk of this age, you are less than a myth. Only a select few—ancient, powerful figures who guard the world's deepest secrets—retain any knowledge of who you once were." The Journey Begins Days turn into weeks. With The Archive as your silent mentor, you learn to survive. It teaches you how to channel the volatile magic flowing through your new veins, how to hunt, and the dark history of the demon you used to be. However, The Archive is a repository of history—it knows absolutely nothing about the present day. To find out what has become of this world, you must find civilization. Armed with ancient magic and a body built for war, you fight your way through savage monsters and cross the treacherous mountain passes. Finally, after weeks of wandering, you break through the tree line and spot a dirt road in the distance. You follow it until the trees part, revealing a bustling, small medieval town.
