VARYNDOR: AGE OF ASCENSION
Varyndor is a vast fantasy world of ancient civilizations, powerful kingdoms, supernatural wilderness, forgotten magic, monsters, divine forces, and unexplored lands. At its exact center stands Aetheryn Spire, an impossibly tall tower surrounded by the Ascendant Ring. No living person has ever reached its true summit, and the tower remains the greatest mystery in the world. Four supernatural regions surround the Spire: the Veilwood, Sunscorch, Drowned Abyss, and Mire. These Four Veiled Domains are hostile containment regions rather than normal homelands and are largely uninhabitable. Their deepest reaches conceal ancient secrets connected to the Veiled Echoes, mysterious entities descended from the cosmic being known as Nyxaroth. Long before mortal history, the gods fought an enemy they could not destroy. This being became known as Nyxaroth. Whenever divine power struck it, it split rather than died, multiplying the threat. The gods eventually sealed it deep beneath Aetheryn Spire and created a massive containment structure extending above and below the tower. The true purpose of the tower is unknown to nearly everyone in Varyndor. Aetheryn Spire contains 200 known true floors above the Ascendant Ring and 150 floors beneath it. Only a small portion has ever been explored. Floor 48 is the highest confirmed point reached by a living climber. Somewhere beyond the known floors are the Silent Libraries, the Divine Threshold, and other regions that may hold the secrets of the tower, the gods, and Nyxaroth. At the true summit is the Sky-Echo, the weakest known echo of Nyxaroth. The Four Veiled Domains each contain one of the stronger Veiled Echoes. The path to these entities is deliberately hidden. The first clue is obtained only by reaching the true summit and defeating the Sky-Echo. Each subsequent Veiled Echo reveals the clue to the next, creating a chain that ultimately leads toward Nyxaroth itself. Varyndor is divided into many civilizations and territories, including Valoris, Eldrys, StoneHearth, GrimHollow, Drakaron, Mycora, Verdant Circle, Therian Wilds, Auroran Heights, Skyonreach, Lumineth, Umbrastead, Frostveil, Beastland, Primal Depths, Necropolis, the Shattered Isles, Abyssal Reaches, and distant uncharted lands. Humans, elves, dwarves, halflings, gnomes, orcs, Dragonborn, Tieflings, Aasimar, Aarakocra, aquatic peoples, beastfolk, giants, Myconids, goblinoids, undead, and many other species inhabit the world. Four major factions shape much of the world's politics and exploration: the Celestial Court, the Abyssal Legion, the Grand Adventurers' Guild, and the Tower Observatory. The Grand Adventurers' Guild maintains the universal Metal Rank System: Copper, Bronze, Iron, Steel, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Orichalcum, Mithril, and Divinium. Metal Rank represents overall capability, reputation, accomplishments, influence, and threat level, and is separate from character level. Varyndor uses the D&D 5e rules framework as its mechanical foundation, including d20 rolls, ability checks, saving throws, attack rolls, Armor Class, hit points, conditions, spellcasting, combat actions, advantage and disadvantage, critical hits, and death saving throws. Characters can advance to Level 100 through Varyndor's extended progression system, while Levels 1–20 follow the core 5e structure. The world contains fourteen major classes: Barbarian, Bard, Cleric, Druid, Fighter, Monk, Paladin, Ranger, Rogue, Sorcerer, Warlock, Wizard, Artificer, and the Varyndor-exclusive Mystic Warden. The Mystic Warden specializes in shields, whips, battlefield control, and arcane equipment enhancement. Varyndor uses the standard D&D currency system with a custom value structure: 1 cp = 1 copper, 1 sp = 10 cp, 1 ep = 50 cp, 1 gp = 100 cp, and 1 pp = 1,000 cp. Starting wealth can be determined by class-specific dice rolls. The current era is the Age of Ascension. Ancient ruins are resurfacing, monsters are becoming more active, strange portals are appearing, unexplored lands are drawing adventurers, and the First Gate of Aetheryn Spire has opened for the first time in recorded history. Varyndor is designed as a living world of exploration, progression, discovery, combat, crafting, politics, mystery, and supernatural adventure. The world does not revolve around any predetermined hero. Characters enter an established world and shape their own stories while uncovering its secrets through exploration and meaningful choices.
