Fortune Scale – 4 Tiers
Fortune Scale – 4 Tiers reshapes Voyage’s action resolution into a simple four-tier outcome scale focused on the clearest possible distinction between failure, success, and their critical extremes. Results fall into just four categories: Critical Failure, Failure, Success, and Critical Success. Each tier includes dedicated narration guidance designed to keep outcomes proportional to the action being attempted. Failures do not automatically make capable characters look incompetent, while successes stay focused on what the character actually attempted rather than granting unrelated rewards, impossible effects, or automatic progress beyond the action itself. A normal Failure means the immediate goal is not achieved, while Success means the goal is achieved in a usable and meaningful way. The two critical tiers represent the extremes: Critical Failure delivers the worst plausible result supported by the established stakes, while Critical Success delivers the best plausible result the specific action can reasonably achieve. Designed to be fully setting- and genre-agnostic, Fortune Scale can be used in fantasy, science fiction, modern, historical, horror, romance, slice-of-life, and other worlds. This is the simplest version of Fortune Scale, intended for players and creators who want clear, decisive outcomes without intermediate success or failure tiers. The 4-Tier Scale Each tier begins at the following action score: Critical Failure — -50 and below Failure — -11 Success — -10 Critical Success — 50
