TIO

Total Intents Overhaul is a full replacement for how NPC behavior is decided and rendered. Instead of treating characters as reactive dialogue machines, TIO gives every present character their own intent: what they do, who they aim it at, whether it belongs in the foreground or background, and how emotion leaks through action. Social scenes, downtime, hostile standoffs, and combat are split into separate logic so the system knows when characters should talk, act, refuse, leave, help, escalate, or simply continue living their own lives around the player. IMPORTANT: The mod is built around a large custom Intents task of roughly 40,000 characters, supported by about 7,000 characters of Story instruction additions. The Intents task decides the raw NPC actions, including social beats, ambient life, relationship logic, knowledge limits, combat tactics, target choice, buffs, defense, retreats, and emotional tells. The Story additions then teach the narrator how to render those intents naturally: one beat at a time, without inventing extra dialogue, without re-deciding NPC choices, and with stronger body language, emotional restraint, and foreground/background control. The goal is a world where NPCs feel like independent people with memory, motives, moods, and lives beyond the player, while still keeping scenes readable and focused.
